Announcing My First Mobile App: SharePrayer

Announcing My First Mobile App: SharePrayer

SharePrayerAs many of you know, for the last few months I have been in the process of creating my first mobile app.  Up until now, I haven’t posted many details about the app, but today I’m extremely happy to announce that it has finally been released and is now for sale on both the App Store and Google Play!

What Is SharePrayer?

SharePrayer is an app that helps people put God first, even in a world full of distractions. SharePrayer has two main features – the ability to set alerts to remind you to stop what you’re doing in pray, and the ability to share and receive prayer request from friends and family.

What sets SharePrayer apart from similar apps is the ability to share and receive prayer requests from family and friends directly through the app!  In order to do this, you must link your email to the app on the settings screen and make sure “Accept Prayer Requests” is on.  Once you do that when a friend wants to share a prayer request with you, all they have to do is press the SharePrayer logo on the app description page and enter your email.  BOOM!  Their prayer request automatically is added to your list of things to pray for!

The great thing about SharePrayer is that if you share a prayer request with someone directly through the app, if they don’t have SharePrayer, they still get your prayer request – it just gets emailed to them automatically instead!

Video Tutorial

I even went ahead and made a quick tutorial video showing you exactly what SharePrayer does and how it’s used!  I apologize in advance about the video quality – I made this video at 1am and just wanted to get it done 😉

Final Thoughts

As you can see from the timeline above, it’s been a long 3 month journey from the idea to final product.  I know that there are a lot of aspects about the development of SharePrayer that I could write about in more detail, but in order to keep this post relatively short, I will save those for future posts.

I’m very excited not only about the possibility of helping people and making money with this app, but also how it affects Mobile App Tycoon.  While I have helped out with the marketing aspects of my uncle’s apps, I have never been through the process of developing an app from A-Z until now.  I’m stoked that I’m going to be able to share my failures and successes with you not only with SharePrayer but with my future apps!

Do Me a Favor?

If you have two minutes to spare today I’d really appreciate it if you could do me a huge favor.  As you probably could guess, reviews are a huge factor in what makes people buy an app.  They also play a role in the ranking algorithm that determines where the app shows up when people search for different keywords.  So if you could please take the time to download either SharePrayer Free, or if you really want to make my day, the full version of SharePrayer (only $0.99) and leave a 4 or 5 star review I would appreciate it so much!

Thanks so much for your help and I’m looking forward to updating you on how SharePrayer does.  From now on, at the beginning of each month I will publish an income report for the money I made from mobile apps in the previous month.  So sometime in the first week of August, you’ll be the first to know how much money I made from SharePrayer in July!  Can’t wait to share it with you!

  1. Hey mate nice work and congratulations. Ill have to checkout the app and give a review. One thing to note is you can get reviews and likes etc on Fiver.com if you want. Interesting choice to have a free version on Android. A client we had who has many Apps that we where working for said the conversions from free to paid on Android is super low. Also ive read that android users are less likely to pay for any sort of app than Iphone users. Would love to know how much this app cost you to make…… Hope it goes well mate best of luck!

    • Thanks Matt! I heard that stat about how Android users are a lot less likely to buy apps which is why I decided to go for a free version on Android as well – at least that might make some advertising revenue for me even if the paid app conversions are low. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out!

It cost me around $800 to develop the app, not including the developer fees for Apple and Google.

Thanks again – I appreciate the support!

  2. Congrats! I’ll download your app and I’ll let you know what I think.
    Best of luck with it!

  3. Congratulations, Thomas!
I know you must feel great about getting your first app out there. That mist feel great!

Your app idea is excellent as well. Very useful. The feature where you can add emails so that non-users can get involved is brilliant.

Thanks for sharing your timeline details and your costs. That is really useful info. I’m looking forward to reading the details of your progress in future posts.

I don’t own an iPhone or Android device, but I’ll install it on my iPad and leave a review.

  4. Congrats Thomas! For your first app release. Wishing you success with more app releases in future as well.

    God Bless.

  5. hey Thomas
Congrats and wishing you all the success on your first app. you app looks interesting I will download that a check it out, best of luck Thomas

  6. Hi Thomas,

Congrats you have gotten further than 99% of people who want to get into the app business.

I have a quick question, is your iOS app written in objective C? or did you use another platform to build it so you would have a version for android?

I am just wondering if you had the app written twice or just once?

    • Thanks Tim! To be honest, I don’t know anything about the coding of the app – it was all left up to the developer who I hired through Elance. Sorry I couldn’t be more of a help here!

  7. nice job thomas. the hardest part sometimes seems to be just getting started. what’s the response to your app been like? have you turned a profit on it?

    • Hey Kathy! You’re exactly right – the hardest part is getting started and getting your first app complete and for sale. Haven’t turned a profit on SharePrayer yet – will be giving the exact details in my income report that I’ll publish in the next few days!

  8. hi thomas, i will definitely download this app to my Samsung Note and i will let you know how it looks on my device. Great app! keep up the good work 🙂

  9. Can I be honest here? We obviously don’t know each other, but I couldn’t help but think why isn’t this a free app? I know that certain resources and time are valuable, but I think that in the end your most valuable resource is time. So to charge anyone for prayer in essence, to me is absolutely the reason why it probably has costed rather than profited. Prayer is free, and it is the Lord God Almighty who gives power to get wealth. An application such as this one in my opinion should be free. You might be better served to reduce the cost of the app to nothing, then offer the service as a token of your appreciation for gifting you with the creative ability to develop. Just my opinion, no pun!
