‘Tis the season…to launch new app! A few days ago I published another app that has been in the works for quite awhile. I’m happy to get this one off the to-do list, and it comes at a great time too – right before Christmas!
Gift List Organizer is another app I have been working on with a local developer as a partnership, just like I’ve been doing with MadLibs Word Generator. The guy I’m working with is an Android developer as well, so naturally this app is only available for Android devices currently. However, if it does really well, we will definitely consider hiring someone to turn it into an iOS app as well.
What is Gift List Organizer?
Gift List Organizer is an app that ideally will help take the stress out of gift shopping! The app will essentially be a notepad-type app where you can add a gift idea list for everyone you have to buy gifts for this year.
As you go throughout your year you probably spot things while shopping that might make good gifts for a friend or family member. However, unless it’s around the time you’re planning on giving the gift, most of us simply walk away and forget about it. With Gift List Organizer, you can keep a running-list of gift ideas for each of your friends and family members you plan to buy gifts for. Then when you actually need to get them a gift, you won’t have to panic – simply look at the list you’ve been building throughout the year!
Here are three screenshots of the app:
Experimenting with the App Name
While many people’s first impression of this app is that it is a “seasonal” app to be used for holiday shopping. While that will most likely be it’s main use people give gifts for plenty of other occasions as well: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc. So we wanted our title to reflect the fact that it’s not just a seasonal app.
That’s why we chose to call it Gift List Organizer. However, since we are launching right around the holidays, we want to “milk” that opportunity as much as possible. Since you’re allowed to change your app name essentially unlimited times in Google Play, we decided to name the app Holiday Gift List Organizer until January 2nd when we will change it back. I don’t know if this will make a difference or not, but it’s worth experimenting with in my opinion.

July 23, 2012 – First Version Completed
December 12, 2012 – Final Version Completed
December 18, 2012 – Launch of App in Google Play
Why The Major Delay?
You might have noticed in the development timeline that there was a huge gap between the first version being complete at the end of July and the final version being complete in mid-December. It’s not that the app took that long to develop, it’s just that because I was focused on a lot of different business tasks at the time, my email conversations with the developer kind of got lost in the shuffle for awhile. Luckily though, when I got back in contact with him at the end of November, he was able to get right back on track and get the app finished up!
While I’m always excited when I release a new app just because of the possibility of it doing really well, realistically I’m not expecting much out of this app. This app was one of my most simple ideas that I proposed to the developer, since he was new to developing mobile apps and it is far from my best idea.
Another reason why I don’t think this app will do too well is that in order to use it to it’s maximum potential, it involves a lifestyle change. It involves people thinking ahead of time as to what gifts they want to get people for the holidays during the summer or before. The fact of the matter is that most people won’t do that…with or without this app.
I’m not going to get my hopes up for this app, but what this app does is it forms a relationship between this developer and I so hopefully I can work with him in the future again on more apps.
I Need YOUR Help!
As you probably know, the more positive reviews an app gets the more people are likely to download it! If you have a few free minutes please leave a review here on Google Play! Unfortunately, you can only do this if you own an Android device. I really appreciate you helping me out here! Leave a comment below letting me know if you reviewed it so I can thank you personally! Also, in the comments section let me know what you think of the idea – how well do YOU think it will do? Good or bad, tell me the truth – I won’t be insulted! Let me know what you think!
