In this session of the Online Income Podcast I’m joined by Alex Malafeev, the co-founder of Sensor Tower.  Sensor Tower is one of the leading App Store research tools out there, and Alex is here to share with us his knowledge of ASO and how we can use it to drive a steady stream of traffic to our apps and turn that traffic into downloads!

App Store optimization can really make or break your app.  By implementing some of Alex’s tips you could potentially see traffic to your app double or even triple in just a few days!  If you’re not taking advantage of ASO, you definitely are missing out, so make sure you grab a notepad and pay attention!

In this session you’ll learn:

  • What App Store optimization is and why it’s hugely important for app developers to know how to take advantage of it.
  • How sustainable App Store optimization is and how it compares to search engine optimization.
  • Alex’s 3 criteria for selecting GREAT keywords for your apps!
  • Using Sensor Tower’s traffic score and difficulty score to compare keywords and find the winners.
  • How to save space and target more search terms when choosing keywords for the App Store.
  • The differences between optimizing your app for the App Store and for Google Play.
  • One easy update that you NEED to make to your apps to help boost rankings and conversions!

  1. Can you make this downloadable as MP3? :-)

  2. Great Podcast Thomas!! Very insightful and have been using Sensor Tower for some time and they have made an improvement for download rates with our apps by analyzing different keywords from our competition.

    • Glad to hear Sensor Tower is working well for you! I’m enjoying it as well and although I’ve been using both AppCod.es and Sensor Tower recently, it’s making me seriously consider canceling my AppCod.es subscription.

  3. Thomas, which subscription do you have of SensorTower?

Did you got a free one by publishing the interview with Alex on your blog?

    • I have a special reviewer membership that I received for doing the interview so I could use the full version of the software before recommending it on the podcast. 2 apps allowed and 20 keywords, so it’s pretty similar to the “basic” plan.

  4. Just saw this yesterday on TechCrunch about Appcodes. Might be an interesting service, but a quick scan on Google or using G alerts might work pretty well too. http://techcrunch.com/2013/10/11/app-mention-alerts-is-a-google-alerts-like-tool-for-mobile-app-developers/

    • Interesting read – thanks for sharing! For alerts Google might work well for sure, but I still think software like AppCod.es and Sensor Tower has some tremendous value for finding keywords as well.

  5. Hey Thomas, was wondering when you were going to publish another podcast! I’m soaking in anything I can find on app development these days. Your podcast last year with Spencer Costanzo was what gave me the push to get into app development. That was quite an inspirational podcast for me! I set a deadline for myself to have at least one app published by end of Nov. 2013… My first app is almost ready and I think I will be able to achieve my goal.

I was delayed 2+ months trying to register my company with Apple. I’m still waiting for final approval for my Apple Developer License. Which leads me to a question. Are you developing apps in your own name or under a company name? Apple’s DUNS number requirement for companies really delayed my progress.

    • Hey Harlan – Glad to hear you’re enjoying the podcast! I had to take a break recording podcast interviews in October because I was spending so much time on college applications instead of on my businesses. For the most part that’s over with now so I can get back to business with the podcast! Let me know when you get your app published – love to check it out! Right now I only publish under my personal account on the app store, but I’m working on forming an LLC, and when I do I’ll also publish on a business account there.
