Why You Should Always Check 5 Star Reviews on Elance

Today I have a short video for you about why you can’t always trust contractors on Elance simply because their average rating is 5 stars.  In this video, I show you a proposal I got on Elance when outsourcing an eBook that at first looked really legit.  Before I selected this contractor though, I took a look at the most negative ratings from previous employers.  Luckily I stumbled upon a negative review that gave evidence that this contractor was simply acting as a middle man and actually reposting jobs he is supposed to be working on and hiring cheap overseas writers with bad content.

Luckily if you do what I show you in this video, you won’t get screwed by these types of shady contractors trying to take advantage of people and make a quick buck!

    Thomas, my experience with outsourcing content, especially for books is that soon or later, some sucker is going to try rip you off just like above because the mistake honest people do(I used to think like this) is that most people are honest, but as you prove there are a lot of those who will try screw you as soon as they got the chance.

    I always write my own content and have it proofread by a person I trust because on that way I don’t have to worry about being ripped off and I can sleep calm!

    • Yeah I can totally understand that mindset. There are a lot of scammers out there and there is a learning curve to being able to weed them out – and I’m definitely not past that either. However, there is so much power in outsourcing and being able to scale your business (whether that is apps or Kindle books) that for me it’s definitely the right move.

  2. When I was starting out in acquiring online work, I have experienced being hired by a middle man. I’ve written articles for very cheap price and in the end, the middle man told me that her client rejected the articles and she won’t be paying me for it. It was a tough start, but I’ve learned my lessons. checking reviews about the client is a good way to start.

    • Sorry to hear that Turner! Trying to “weed out” the middle men can be frustrating both for contractors and employers…sometimes they are very apparent but other times you really have to look hard to recognize them.
